    Disclosures: First, I am not a woman. Second, I have been a fan and advocate of Dr. Darden’s programs since the very early 1980s (because they work).

    I appreciate the chance to be the first to write a review on Dr. Darden’s book as I believe it deserves five stars. Like his previous book, he leaves nothing unaddressed while adding new information and insights to his proven program.

    The amazing thing is his advice has withstood the challengers, critics and over-hyped infomerical workouts.

    – Running and aerobics? Dr. Darden warned long ago that the risks far, far outweigh the very limited value. Instead, he’s advised easy walking for years–something the Paleo gurus have just “popularized”.
    – Limited protein / carb rich diets? Endocrinologists and other doctors have warned of the dangers of too much protein. Risks include over-production of IGF-1 (cancer), kidney issues for some individuals and the body’s ability to only use a limited amount of protein. And Dr. Gerald Reavan, MD, revealed protein can have nearly the same affects on insulin as refined carbs. August 2015 finds science agreeing with Dr. Darden’s advice on carbs and fat loss…it works.
    – Brief, intense weight training vs. aerobics for weight loss? The evidence has been was published by Nautilus in the 1970s and additional findings have been cited in Dr. Darden’s books. Why waste days and hours per week when proper weight training, done twice a week for 20 – 30 min, is just as effective if not more?
    – Cold water? Staying cool? As far back as the early 90s (?), Dr. Darden showed the fat burning value of this — now, in the last few years, gurus are now coming up with revelations such as “Slow Carb” diets, lots of cold water and staying cool from cold showers to ice vests.

    Ignore the other programs…Dr. Darden’s been on target since cutting his teeth on his PhD and then with Arthur Jones at Nautilus.

    Ladies, forget the aerobics. Drop the dangerous diets (topic’s covered in his book…excellent new information on this topic). Put those high impact plyometric videos that will drive you “insane” with injuries on eBay or in the trash. This is the program to get you lean and healthy in weeks.
