    We all could build a house (or at least a sauna room) with all the diet books that come out daily. Some are so scientifically oriented that they leave the general public in the dust. Others have a one-note song about how they have discovered THE enzyme or hormone or berry or chemical that allows us to eat anything and till lose weight. Supplements abound and you can break the bank with trying to keep up with the `follow-up to free samples’ that hit the computer screen with daily regularity. In the end there seem to be countless ways to hit that goal of losing pounds as long as you stick to the `newest fad’, but what about reality?

    C Elias starts with reality – and stays there. In this very basic yet very complete and informative book she explains that if we learn how to eat correctly and to exercise then the rest is dismissible (expensive and tiresome) salesmanship to sell products. She goes step by step with how to select and purchase foods that are aimed toward weight control – and why they can accomplish what you need, that being `less you’. Some of the highlights she hits are the need for fluids for hydration and cleansing and staying satiated, the question of fresh fruits versus canned or juiced fruits, the discussion about sugars and sweetening substitutes, the good and the bad flours (and why) which blends into the gluten and fiber discussion, the role of Probiotics (yogurt lovers beware), the inclusion of coffee and tea as part of the fluid portion (given the fact that they are diuretics and can dehydrate you), fats and oils and which are good and why and which are bad and why, dairy products, the benefit of raw eggs, the benefits of apple cider vinegar, the nays of pork/alcohol/salt, the benefits of sensible exercise on a daily basis.

    So you see, nothing terribly frightening or threatening about hay C Elias has to say. She simply breaks it down into understandable, applicable common sense principles. In other words, breathe in, re-think, and wake up to simply applying some basic easy to remember and logical rules that will guide you in the right direction for understanding your body and how it works and for allowing you to assist in your own health and weight management.
